Money
The Aruban currency is the Florin (AFl), and accepts US dollars at a rate of $1.78AFl to US$1 (with 1AFl being with approx US$0.56)
. One florin is divided into 100 cents. The silver coins come in denominations of 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢. The US dollar is widely accepted in Aruba.
ATM's are very common in Aruba - with most hotels, the airport and throughout Oranjestad having machines. Most will provide both dollars and florins.
Credits cards are accepted everywhere, and are safer and easier than cash. Its only the small shops and restaurants (and the taxis) that still require cash.
Taxes and Tipping
There is no sales tax here in Aruba, but you'll still find an 11% government tax on hotel rooms, and many hotels will often add from 5-7% for service.
Many restaurants charge service at 10-15% on your bill, but because this doesn't all go to the wait staff, its still a nice idea to leave a few dollars on the table. Standard tipping, if not included on your bill, would be the usual 15-20%. The same holds true for taxis. Just $2 per day for housekeeping and the same per bag for porters is fine.
